LEVELLAND - The South Plains College track and field teams
will wrap-up their indoor schedule this weekend when they compete at the
prestigious Tyson Invitational on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. The meet is one of the biggest in the country
and will feature some of the top teams the NCAA has to offer, including the No. 1 ranked Arkansas Razorback men and the No. 2 ranked LSU women's team. All totaled, there are 10 men's teams ranked in the top-25 and nine women's teams entered in the meet.
South Plains found much success on the 200-meter banked track when they competed at Tyson for the first time in 2011, setting two NJCAA and seven school records during the two day event.
The Lady Texans will compete with nine athletes, while the Texans have 14 entered.
The Texan 4x400 relay team will compete Saturday evening in the men's championship section that will be run during the USATF Classic portion of the meet. The USATF Classic will be broadcast on tape delay Sunday, February 12 at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN 2.
The meet begins Friday at 12 p.m. with the field events and 1 p.m. for the running events and will conclude at approximately 8 p.m. with the 60-meter dash. On Saturday, K'Don Samuels will be the first Texan to compete as the pole vault begins at 10 a.m. The final event of the meet is scheduled for 7:52 p.m. Saturday, February 11.
