SNYDER - Stanton Kidd scored a game high 21 points and three other Texans added double-digits to help lead the South Plains College Texans to an 83-62 victory over the Western Texas College Westerners Thursday night at the WTC Coliseum. The victory improves the NJCAA No. 1 ranked Texans record to 21-0 overall and 6-0 in conference play, and gives them a two game lead over Odessa, Midland, and Howard. The Westerners drop to 13-9 and 1-5 league play.


South Plains got off to a quick start as they led by 12 points just past the midway point of the first half and extended their lead to as many as 16 points before heading to the locker room with a 33-18 advantage.

The Texans scored 10 of the first 12 points as the second period got underway and never surrendered their double-digit lead. South Plains' largest lead was 26 points after a dunk by Greg Gainey.

Kidd was red hot from the field, making 9-of-10 goals including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and also hauled in six rebounds. Making 8-of-9 shots, Gainey finished with 16 points.

Tymell Murphy pulled down a game high 13 rebounds and finished with a double-double by chipping in 10 points. Malcolm Miller also scored 10.

As a team, South Plains made 37-of-66 (.561) shots from the field and outrebounded the Westerners by a 50-28 margin.

South Plains will get a break from the road as they are set to host two home games at the Texan Dome next week. On Monday, February 6, the Texans will tip-off at 6:30 p.m. against the New Mexico Military Institute Broncos (8-12, 1-5). South Plains College would like to acknowledge all veterans in attendance at halftime. Veterans wishing to attend Monday's contest can pick up a complimentary ticket at the SPC Student Activities Center in Levelland as well as building 8 of the SPC Reese Center in Lubbock.

On Thursday, February 9, South Plains will celebrate Homecoming against Midland College and are encouraging fans to ‘Pack the Dome.' A brisket meal will be served and tickets can be purchased at the gate and are $6 for adults and $4 children 12 and under.
