LEVELLAND - The South Plains College Texans - now ranked No. 1 in the latest NJCAA polls - and SPC Lady Texans travel to Hobbs, N.M. Thursday afternoon for their second consecutive conference road game, this time with New Mexico Junior College. Game time is set for 6:45 p.m. CST for the women's contest while the men are scheduled for a 8:45 p.m. tip. Live video of the game can be found at www.spctexans.com with HPRN's Michael Wiiest on the call. Fans can also tune in and listen to the games at KLVT 1230 AM and www.hprnetwork.com.

The Lady Texans (4-15, 1-2) picked up their first conference win this past Monday, knocking off Frank Phillips College 71-54. Frank Phillips sent SPC to the free throw line 29 times during the game and the Lady Texans made them pay by converting 25 of them. They also out-rebounded their opponent by a 55-28 margin.

The women will need another stout performance to knock off conference leader and NJCAA No. 20 ranked New Mexico (18-2, 2-0). Not only do the Lady T-Birds lead the conference in scoring with 75 points per game, they also rank second in scoring defense, allowing only 54 points per game.

Led by conference scoring leader Ashley Roberts' 18 points per game, South Plains also received a dominating performance inside against Frank Phillips as sophomore Stephanie Moore lit up the game with 26 points and 19 rebounds. The 6-1 post from Anton will likely be charged with containing New Mexico's leaders Honor Duvall and Te'onna Campbell who put in 14 and 12 points per game, respectively.

The SPC Texan basketball team will hit the hardwood for the first time as the No. 1 team in all of the National Junior College Athletic Association when they take on the T-Birds. The Texans (18-0, 3-0) are fresh off a 101-78 dismantling of the Plainsmen but face a New Mexico (14-5, 2-1) team that should not be underestimated as they recently gave eighth-ranked Odessa College all they could handle in a 54-56 loss and last week defeated Midland College.

Thursday's men's game will feature the No. 1 ranked offense in the conference against the No. 2 ranked defense. South Plains enters with a scoring average of 85 points per game while New Mexico only gives up 61. The Texans, however, have a balanced scoring attack with four players averaging in double figures with sophomore Marshall Henderson leading the way with a little more than 18 per game. In 16 games Henderson has converted on nearly 46-percent of his field goal attempts and shoots just as well from beyond the 3-point line, making 67-of-146 (.459) attempts on the season.

The Texans and Lady Texans are scheduled to return to the Texan Dome Monday, January 30 when Howard College visits.
