The NJCAA No. 2 ranked South Plains College Texans and SPC Lady Texans will resume their conference season Monday, January 23 when they travel to Borger, Texas for matchups with Frank Phillips College. The women will tip-off at 5:45 p.m., while the men are scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on KLVT 1230 AM and HPRN's Michael Wiiest will have the call. Live stats will also be available at www.spctexans.com.
The Lady Texans (3-15, 0-2) are still looking for their first conference victory after a tough overtime loss Thursday to Odessa College in which they had an opportunity to win at the buzzer. Head Coach Michelle Wyatt
will likely rely heavily on WJCAC scoring leader Ashley Roberts
to help the Lady Texans defeat the Lady Plainsmen (5-12, 0-2). Roberts averages slightly more than 18 points per game and also ranks No. 17 in the NJCAA in that category.
While at South Plains College, head coach Steve Green
has amassed a record of 18-4 against Frank Phillips (8-10, 0-2) although he and his Texan squad will look to avenge a loss on the road to the Plainsmen last season.
South Plains (17-0, 2-0) enters the Monday evening showdown with three players averaging 10 points or more per contest. Marshall Henderson
leads the Texans with 18.4 points and has shot an incredible 45-percent from beyond the 3-point line. Yanick Moreira
and Malcolm Miller
have put in 12.65 and 10.25 points per game, while Stanton Kidd
and Tymell Murphy
chip in with just fewer than 10 per game.
In addition to being a scorer, Moreira also wreaks havoc in the paint averaging 2.5 blocks per game and has swatted away four shots in each of the past two games. Moreira also pulls down eight rebounds per night.
