The South Plains College Texan and Lady Texan track and field teams will take a small contingent of athletes to compete at the Texas Tech Invitational Friday, January 13 and Saturday, January 14. The meet will be held at the Athletic Training Center just south of Jones Stadium.

Texan and Lady Texan athletes will only be competing in the 1000M run, 600 yard dash, and the 4x400 M relays. The 1000M run and 600 yard dash will both be run Friday evening and are the second and third events within a rolling schedule that will begin at 6 p.m.

The 4x400 M relays are the final events scheduled Saturday.

Returning all-Americans Natoya Goule (1000), Sparkle McKnight (600, 4x400), Janeil Bellille (600, 4x400), Shana-Gaye Tracey (600, 4x400), Kirsten Taylor (1000), and Amoy Blake (4x400) are scheduled to compete for the Lady Texans while returning Texan all-American's competing at Texas Tech include Bralon Taplin (400, 4x400), Kourt'ney Payne (600, 4x400), Kin Scott (600, 4x400), and Julian Parker (600, 4x400).

South Plains is the defending women's NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Champions but will not attempt to defend their crown. Both Texans and Lady Texans won the NJCAA Outdoor title in 2011 and will look to defend both titles for a fourth consecutive season when they host the NJCAA Outdoor championships in Levelland in May. The Texans are five-time defending men's champions of the outdoor meet.
