GLENDALE, Ariz. - Sophomore Deshaunt Walker scored a game
and season high 22 points coming off the bench to help the fourth-ranked South
Plains College Texans to a 30-point victory over the Glendale College Gauchos
Monday afternoon in a game every Texan player saw significant playing time and
five players scored 10 points or more.
South Plains College took control of the game early on by
jumping out to a 21 point lead midway through the first half. The Gaucho's crept back into the game by
closing the gap to 10 points, but with the half winding down the Texans closed
out on a 7-0 run to take a 53-36 lead to halftime.
The Texans (12-0) then scored 23 of the first 30 points of
the second half to remove all doubt of who was in control of the contest,
taking a commanding 76-43 lead with more than 14 minutes still left to be
played and would go on to a dominating victory, 115-85.
Walker had an efficient night, making 8-of-11 shots
including 6-of-8 from downtown. Marshall
Henderson was also on target most of the evening, hitting 8-of-14 overall and
4-of-10 3's to finish with 20 points.
Derrell Edwards also sunk 4 3-pointers and added a free throw to finish
with 13, while Tymell Murphy and Yanick Moreira chipped in with 11 and 10
points. Sophomore Stanton Kidd just
missed a double-double with 8 points and 9 rebounds.
South Plains College returns to action Tuesday evening when
they square off with Mesa Community College (10-3) at 8:30 p.m. CST.
