PLANO, Texas - The South Plains College Texans remained undefeated on the season when they defeated Collin County Community College for the second time this season in the final game during day one of the Collin County Thanksgiving Classic.
Freshman Yanick Moreira led the way with a team high 19 points while also pulling down 10 boards to record a double-double. Moreira made 8-of-11 shots and also swatted away six shots in just less than 38 minutes of action. Three other Texans also scored in double figures to help the Texan cause. Sophomores Marshall Henderson and Malcolm Miller tallied 14 and 13 points, respectively, while Stanton Kidd added 12. Deshaunt Walker nailed 3-of-4 shots from downtown to chip in with nine.
After taking a 20 point lead to the locker room, 45-25, the Texans allowed the wide margin to slip to within four points after the Cougars outscored SPC 28-12 over the opening 13-minutes of the second half. The Texans would gather themselves and a Henderson pass that was dunked by Malcolm Miller with only 2:08 remaining would put the Texans up by nine and provide the spark SPC needed to finish off a 10-0 run to end the game with a 15 point victory, 76-51.
Next up for the Texans (7-0) is Panola College at 6 p.m. Saturday to finish Collin's Thanksgiving Classic. Live stats and video will be available at www.spctexans.com.
