LEVELLAND, Texas - Marshall Henderson and Tymell Murphy had the hot hands for South Plains College, leading the No. 7 ranked Texans to an 11-point victory over the State Fair Community College Roadrunners Friday night at the Texan Dome. The Texans improve to 5-0 on the season with the 86-75 victory.
Henderson came out with guns blazing; scoring 19-of-his-26 points in the first half. Henderson made 9-of-21 shots from the field in approximately 30-minutes while Murphy finished the game with a double-double - his second in as many games - with 22-points and 11 rebounds. Murphy was consistent from the field making 7-of-12 shots and also made 8-of-11 attempts from the free throw line.
The Texans put the heat on their opponent early when they bolted out to a 19-point lead less than 9-minutes into the contest. State Fair would pull within 11 before the two teams went to intermission.
SPC began the second half pretty hot as well, beginning on a 7-0 scoring run. The Texans never lost their double-digit lead before the buzzer sounded, giving South Plains the victory.
The Texans will face Collin County (6-1), the winner of the 4:30 p.m. game over Odessa (7-1), at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Cougars defeated Odessa 75-68. Odessa will play State Fair (2-5) in the early game at 12 p.m.
