LEVELLAND, Texas - Sophomore Ashley Roberts scored 18 points to help lead the Lady Texans to a thrilling come-from-behind victory over Cisco College Saturday afternoon at the Texan Dome.
Returning to the court after halftime, the Lady Texans saw a 29-23 deficit increase to ten points, 35-25 with 17 minutes, 45 seconds to go in the game. A three-pointer by Roberts helped the Lady Texans begin a 12-0 scoring run that gave South Plains College their first lead of the game at the 17:45 mark.
The game saw three tie scores over the next six minutes and the Lady Texans trailed for the final time, 45-44, when the closed the game out on a 9-2 run to win their first game of the season 53-47. The Lady Texans improve their record to 1-2.
Playing nearly 38 minutes, freshman Kayla Turner chipped in with 10 points. Stephanie Moore and Lindsey Lee, natives of Anton and Levelland, scored eight and seven points, respectively, for the Lady Texans.
The Lady Texans will hit the road again when they travel to Liberal, Kan. to play in the Seward County Days Inn Classic November 18-19. Their first game will be a 6 p.m. matchup against tournament host Seward County on Friday, followed by a 2 p.m. tip-off against Hutchinson on Saturday.
