LEVELLAND, Texas - The South Plains College Texan basketball team will travel to Midland this afternoon for a couple of big weekend games as part of the East-West Men's Basketball Classic hosted by Midland College. On Friday the Texans will matchup with Trinity Valley at 6 p.m., the No. 6 ranked team in the NJCAA. SPC will then face No. 13 Lamar-Port Arthur on Saturday at 2 p.m.

South Plains College (2-0) is coming off wins of Ranger College and North Lake College last weekend in Odessa.

Through two games, the Texans have three players averaging more than 10-points per game, led by sophomore Marshall Henderson with 18.5. Sophomore Malcolm Miller and freshman Yanick Moreira are chipping in 13.5 and 12.5, respectively. Moreira is adding 8.5 rebounds per game.

Very little information could be found for Trinity Valley as they have not entered statistics or a schedule for the current season. For the nine games they did enter last season, they were led by D.D. Scarver with 18 points per game. According to the NJCAA polls, the Cardinal finished the 2010-11 season with a record of 25 wins and 6 losses.

Lamar-Port Arthur (3-0) enters the East-West Classic with an undefeated record after playing three non-member schools. They will have a tough test as they open the weekend with No. 8 Howard College before facing the Texans Saturday. The Seahawks have three players averaging better than 19 points.
