ODESSA, Texas - Sophomore Marshall Henderson scored 27 points and the South Plains College Texans moved to 2-0 on the season after defeating North Lake College 89-58 Saturday afternoon at the Odessa College Sports Center.
Henderson, who scored 21-of-his-27 points in the first half, was 10-of-16 from the field including 6-of-11 from beyond the arc in just over 21 minutes of playing time. Henderson also had three steals, one of which he took coast-to-coast and converted into a three-point play after he was fouled hard by a North Lake defender.
Yanick Moreira had another solid night for the Texans with 13 points and eight rebounds. The native of Luanda, Angola also had three blocks for the second consecutive game. Sophomore Malcolm Miller also scored 13 points to add a spark off the bench.
Anthony Walker played well off the bench, scoring 12 points making 4-of-7 shots and 4-of-5 free throws. Walker made his presence known down low, jamming home a Texan missed shot and also grabbing seven rebounds.
As a team the Texans made 32-of-63 (.508) shots.
The NJCAA No. 18 ranked Texans have tough tests in their next games when they travel to Midland for the Midland College Classic. On Friday, November 11 they will face No. 6 ranked Trinity Valley at 6 p.m. The next day they will tangle with No. 13 Lamar-Port Arthur at 2 p.m.
