LUBBOCK, Texas - South Plains College sophomore Ty Willick quickly took care of business in steer wrestling during Friday's performance and will join five Texans and Lady Texans as contestants in Saturday's final performance beginning at 7 p.m. at the Texas Tech Equestrian Center.

Willick blasted out of the gate and was done in 3.8 seconds to take the lead in the long round with only Saturday morning's slack to go. His time stood up and he won the round, earning 60 championship points. A solid performance Saturday night would go a long way in helping Willick move back up the southwest region standings and get back into contention for a berth to the College National Finals Rodeo, in which the top three in each event qualify.

Willick will be joined in Saturday's final by teammate Blake Gagnon, whose time of 5.0 seconds was good for a tie for eighth place.

Competing Friday morning, Asa Daugherty's time of 9.2 seconds was good for the lead in tie-down roping. Daugherty's time held up through Friday's performance, but was knocked down to third after slack Saturday morning. Daugherty earned 40 points and will look to earn more Saturday evening.

The SPC breakaway ropers have had a good week thus far at the Texas Tech rodeo, led by Sarah Walker's time of 2.6 seconds attained during slack Saturday morning which will qualify as third best entering Saturday evening's final. Keyla Kothman's time of 3.1 seconds Saturday morning put her in a three-way tie for eighth best. One of the contestants Kothman tied with was teammate Kimberly Hendley, who also attained a time of 3.1 seconds Friday morning.

Walker will also compete in goat tying Saturday night, qualifying with the eighth best time of 8.98 seconds.

Saturday's final performance will begin at 7 p.m. and will be the final rodeo until the spring season begins in March.
