LEVELLAND, Texas - For the third consecutive week the SPC rodeo teams will be hitching up their trailers and traveling to a rodeo, this time hosted by Vernon College October 6-8. After two rodeos, four SPC athletes find themselves in the top 15 of their respective events and in position to make some noise during the season.
Thanks in large part to a first round ride of 84 last week, J.T. Pettitt sits seventh overall in bull riding with 80 championship points. Pettitt is slated to ride during Friday's first performance, which begins at 7 p.m.
Ty Willick also finds himself in seventh place overall in the steer wrestling standings. Willick looks to advance to Saturday's short round for the third time and will compete right away during Thursday afternoon slack.
Consistency last week helped Sarah Walker earn 60 championship points to put her in eighth place in the goat tying standings after two rodeos. Walker will attempt to continue her consistent ways during Friday slack at 8:30 a.m.
The 10 championship points Kimberly Hendley earned in Alpine competing in breakaway roping was enough to sneak her in the standings at No. 14 overall. Hendley also competes in this event during Friday morning slack.
