LAS VEGAS, N.M. - Freshman Darroneisha Lott blasted the field by nearly 40 seconds to easily win the individual title while teammate and six-time NJCAA champion Natoya Goule was the second competitor to cross the line to lead the Lady Texans to an 11 point victory for the team title at the New Mexico Highlands Cross Country Jamboree Saturday morning. Kemoy Campbell won his second consecutive meet in the men's race.
Lott's time of 18 minutes, 42.22 seconds was easily enough to win the race over last season's NJCAA cross country runner-up Goule's time of 19:19.74. The front running duo was complemented by two top-10 finishes in Michaela Johnson (20:17.96) and Kirsten Taylor (20:34.66) who finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Returning All-American Tiffany Matthews rounded out the Lady Texan team scoring finishing just outside the top-10 in 11th and a time of 20:46.72. The Lady Texans won with a team total of 31 points.
Campbell, last year's NJCAA men's cross country runner-up, had another dominating performance turning in a time of 24:16.95 to win the race by 56 seconds.
Isaac Placencia (26.43.66) and Bretton Villarreall (27:20.18) continue to run well with 14th and 19th place finishes. Rene Escobedo (28:15.10) and Luke Samarron (29:49.47) finished 28th and 35th, respectively, to help the Texans finish third in the team race with 68 points.
Anthonio Mascoll also competed for SPC, finishing right behind Samarron in 36th with a time of 30:30.36.
