Sophomore Ben Ramey came up just short in his bid to return to the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR). He advanced to the short round when he finished with a time of 5.60 seconds, tying for the fifth quickest time to earn 10 championship points. Ramey's time of 16.3 seconds in the short round did not help him to the 30 he would have needed to put him in a tie for the third and final spot in the steer wrestling standings. Ramey will finish the 2010-11 season in sixth place with 320 points.
Katie Vierstra's time of 7.70 seconds was good for fourth in the opening round of the goat tying competition. Her short round time was just a shade slower at 7.80 seconds, the fifth quickest of the round. Vierstra finished with a two day total of 15.5 seconds finishing fourth in the overall average and earning 70 championship points.
SPC head rodeo coach Kerry Doster will now hit the recruiting trail to replace his graduating sophomores for the 2011-12 season that begins in September.
