BIG SPRING, Texas - Blake Gagnon had his best performance of
the year when it counted most to win the short round of the steer wrestling
competition Saturday at the Howard College rodeo in Big Spring. Gagnon eked his way into Saturday's
final round with a 10th best time of 7.0 seconds in his first
attempt. He then proceeded to blow
away the field on Saturday, clocking a time of 4.6 seconds to win the round and
take second in the overall average to earn a total of 110 points in the event.
In breakaway roping, Kelli Kindig easily advanced to the
short round with a time of 2.7 seconds, tied for the second best. Kindig failed to record a time in the
Carley Richardson's time of 17.32 seconds in barrel racing
earned her an opportunity to race in Saturday's short round as the 10th
best qualifier. Richardson
recorded a time of 22.32 seconds in the final to finish eighth overall.
The South Plains College rodeo teams have one competition
remaining on their 2011 spring schedule and will compete again April 28-30 at
the Tarleton State rodeo in Stephenville.
