LEVELLAND, Texas - South Plains College Associate Head Coach for track and field, Blaine Wiley
, has been named Women's Assistant Coach of the Year by his coaching peers for the success he and his athletes had during the 2011 indoor track and field season. Wiley helped guide the Lady Texans to a dominating performance that ended with the SPC women winning the NJCAA National Championship by 92 ½ points.
Wiley's Lady Texan athletes achieved tremendous success throughout the season with several school records being broken along the way and earning nine all-American honors and four individual championships at the NJCAA Championships.
Sophomore Jura Levy set school records in the 55 (6.80), 60 (7.31), and 200 (23.10) meter dashes. Her performance in the 200 meter dash at the NJCAA championships took down the meet record previously held by Veronica Campbell, an athlete who has gone on to win multiple World and Olympic championship medals.
