LUBBOCK, Texas - The South Plains College Texans (17-12, 6-8) enter the 2011 Region 5 basketball tournament as the No. 4 seed from the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) and will face North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) champion and NJCAA No. 13 ranked McLennan (26-4, 12-2). Game time is set for 7 p.m. Friday evening.

After beginning the conference season splitting their first six games, the Texans dropped five straight to put themselves in a hole and on the outside looking in for a chance to play in the Region 5 tournament. South Plains won the final three on their schedule and won a tie breaker with New Mexico to advance as the No. 4 seed.

After dropping their second conference game to Collin County, the Highlanders cruised through the rest of their schedule by winning 11 of their final 12 games to claim the NTJCAC crown.

Tournament seeds aside, the two teams appear to be evenly matched as both teams enter averaging 74 points per game. The Texans give up 66 points per game, while McLennan has given up 61 per game defensively.
