LEVELLAND, Texas - Whiteface native and current South Plains College cheerleader Victoria Van Zandt was crowned Miss Caprock 2011 Friday on the campus of South Plains College. Van Zandt will receive a $500 scholarship for her efforts.

"I feel honored that I was selected to represent such a great, successful and enriching school by being chosen as Miss Caprock," VanZandt said in the release. "Most of all, however, I just feel grateful that I had the opportunity to compete with such an outstanding group of girls."

She is the daughter of Michele VanZandt of Levelland and is a freshman pre-veterinary major.

Jacey Ochoa and Amanda Brown also competed in the pageant, with Ochoa taking first runner-up honors and Brown rounding out the top five. Ochoa will receive a $300 scholarship.

There were 13 contestants nominated by South Plains College clubs, organizations or residence halls to compete for the title. The interview segment of the competition comprised 50 percent of the total score with casual and evening wear making up 25 percent. The contestants' response to the question segment counted 25 percent on the judges' ballots.
