The Texan and Lady Texan cross country teams are scheduled
to depart for Overland Park, Kansas today where they will participate in the
NJCAA Half-Marathon Championships Saturday, November 20th. The Texans are the defending champions on the
men's side, while the Lady Texans look to improve upon their seventh place
finish from one year ago.
The half-marathon competition is scored very similarly to
cross country with the only difference being that each team's top three
competitors make up that teams overall score and each team is only allowed five
athletes. In cross country, seven
athletes are allowed to make up a team, with the top five representing the team
Kemoy Campbell will look to lead the Texans to the defense
of their title and he will be joined by Hugo Aguinaga, Joey Villarreal, Roblet
Muhudin, and Isacc Placencia.
The Lady Texan contingent will consist of Natoya Goule,
Tiffany Matthews, Leann Cardona, Kadian Dunkley, and Kirsten Taylor.
This year's event will take place at Shawnee Mission Park in
Overland Park, Kansas where the weather is scheduled to be in the mid-50's when
the races begin at 8 a.m. for the women and 8:20 a.m. for the men.
