BORGER, Texas - Freshman post Kelsey made 12-of-18 shots on her way to scoring a career high 28 points to help lead the South Plains College Lady Texans (17-9, 8-3) to a 76-43 thumping of Frank Phillips College (18-10, 3-7). The Lady Texan victory keeps South Plains College in second position in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference standings with a 1 ½ game lead ahead of third place New Mexico, SPC's next opponent.

South Plains found themselves in an early hole, down 11 points midway through the first half of play. Down 19-8, the Lady Texans charged back into the game by scoring 14 unanswered points. Canavan scored eight during that stretch to help put SPC into the lead for the first time, 22-19.

The Lady Texans would relinquish the lead one time before going to the locker room with a 32-29 advantage.

After making nearly 45-percent of their shots in the first half, the Lady Plainsmen shot an abysmal 18-percent in the entire second half, compared to the Lady Texans who made 14-of-28 shots on their way to outscoring FPC 44-14 in the second half to run away with the game 76-43.

Canavan led three players scoring in double figures. Sophomore Sajoyia Griffin added 14 points and eight rebounds, while Jasmine Taylor contributed 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field.

The Lady Texans will face New Mexico Junior College (15-12, 6-4) on Thursday, February 25 in the regular season finale for each team. The Lady T-Birds earned a 74-68 victory over Odessa College tonight and a victory over Frank Phillips on Monday would put New Mexico only one game behind the Lady Texans for second place in the WJCAC standings.
