LEVELLAND, Texas - The South Plains College Lady Texans (15-8, 6-2) shot a dismal 19-percent from the field as Midland College (23-3, 7-1) snapped SPC's five game winning streak to take sole possession of first place in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference standings. The Lady Texans are 1 ½ games ahead of New Mexico Junior College (13-11, 4-3) in second place.
Both teams had trouble scoring points early in the game and with 9:17 remaining in the first half the score was knotted up at 10-10. The Lady Chaps went on to outscore SPC 14-3 to head to the locker room with a 24-13 lead.
The Lady Texans were then able to pull to within six points early in the second half, but a bucket in the paint for Midland's Erika Warren followed by a three-pointer by Jessi Cowden sparked an 11-0 run for the Lady Chaps who would go on to hand SPC their second conference loss 51-36.
Sajoyia Griffin led SPC with 13 points and five steals while playing the entire 40 minutes of the contest. Freshman Jasmine Taylor added eight points in 23 minutes.
The Lady Texans will return to action on Thursday, February 11 when they travel to Snyder to take on Western Texas College (12-13, 1-7). The Lady Westerners fell to New Mexico Junior 60-54 Monday night. Game time is 5:45 p.m. and can be heard live on KLVT 1230 AM.
